Cary Grant is devastating as debonair US agent Steven Devlin, who’s torn between his love for Alicia and his distrust of her. She is enlisted to seduce Alex Sebastian (Claude Rains), a sophisticated German expatriate, to find out about his suspected Nazi affiliations. Madly impassioned by Alicia, Sebastian even marries her against the wishes of his tyrannical mother (Leopoldine Konstantin) and before long all three are entangled in a web of constrained desire and cruel deceit…

"Casting a Shadow" was first presented in 2007 at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University in Evanston/Illinois. Afterwards it was shown at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. Many of the exhibits are from their archives. The Museum für Film und Fernsehen will bring this Alfred Hitchcock exhibition to Berlin - it's only stop in Europe - from January 29 to May 5. The show will be augmented by exhibits from the Museum’s own archives, in particular those illuminating Hitchcock’s relationship to Germany and Berlin.

Hayes's work on Rear Window gained him an Academy Award nomination. Hayes was also nominated for an Oscar for writing the 1957 film Peyton Place.

Hayes is survived by two daughters, Rochelle Hayes and Meredyth Hayes Badreau; two sons, Garrett Michael and Corey; and four grandchildren.
