Alfred Hitchcock is known for his masterful directing abilities, and his keen eye for great stories. Another thing Hitchcock is well known for was his brief appearances, or 'cameos', that he made in his films. It is common belief that he appeared in all of his films, but that is untrue. Family Plot: |
For his last time on film, Hitchcock can been seen in silhouette through the door of the Registrar of Births and Deaths, approx. 41 minutes into the movie. |
Frenzy: |
Three minutes into Frenzy, Alfred can be spotted in the center of a crowd, wearing a bowler hat. You might also notice that he is the only one not applauding the speaker. |
Topaz: |
Another one of Hitch's humorous cameos is in Topaz. 30 minutes into the film, Hitch is being pushed in a wheelchair in an airport. He gets up from thewheel chair, shakes hands with a man, and walks off to the right. |
Torn Curtain: |
Hitchcock makes a brief appearance (as usual) early on in Torn Curtain. When in the Hotel d'Angleterre look for Hitch in the lobby with a blond baby |
Marnie: |
Just five minutes in, you can spot Hitch entering from the left of the hotel hallway after Tippi
Hedren passes by. |
The Birds: |
In the beginning of the Film, we see Hitchcock leaving the pet shop with two white terriers as Tippi Hedren enters. |
Psycho: |
Approx. 4 minutes into the film, you can see Hitchcock standing outside through Janet Leigh's window as she returns to her office. Hitch is wearing a cowboy hat. |
North by Northwest: |
One of Alfred's most humorous cameo's is in North by Northwest. Just ever so briefly in the opening of the film, Alfred Hitchcock can be seen missing a bus.. |
Vertigo: |
Approx. 11 minutes into the film, we briefly see Hitchcock wearing a gray suit walking in the street. |
The Wrong Man: |
Hitchcock does not make one of his typical apperances in The Wrong Man. He felt the story was too serious for the audience members to be distracted, so instead Hitchcock opens the film with a prologue/statement. |
The Man Who Knew Too Much: |
This time Hitchcock can been seen, with his back to the camera, watching acrobats in the Moroccan marketplace just before the murder. |
The Trouble with Harry:

About 20 minutes into the film, Hitch takes another one of his famous walks. This time right past the parked limousine of an old man who is looking at paintings. |
To Catch a Thief: |
Just 10 minutes into To Catch a Thief, you can spot Alred Hitchcock sitting to the left of Cary Grant on a bus. |
Rear Window: |
About a half hour into the film, Alfred Hitchcock can be seen winding the clock in the songwriter's apartment. |
Dial M for Murder: |
Alfred Hitchcock's cameo in Dial M for Murder is one that might be easily missed. Thirteen mintutes in to the film, you can see Hitchcock in the left side of the class-reunion photo. |
I Confess: |
In I Confess, Hitchcock can be viewed crossing the top of a long staircase just after the opening credits. |
Strangers on a Train: |
10 minutes into Strangers on a Train, Hitchcock can be seen boarding a train with a double bass fiddle as Farley Granger gets off in his hometown of Metcalfe. |
Stage Fright: |
This time around you can glance Hitch turning to look at Jane Wyman in her disguise as
Marlene Dietrich's maid. |
Under Capricorn: |
In Under Capricorn, Hitchcock makes a rare two appearances. About 5 mins in, look for Hitch in the town square during a parade. He will be wearing a blue coat and brown hat. About 10 mins in, Hitch is one of three men on the steps of Government House. |
Rope: |
In Rope, Hitchcock really makes two appearances. He can bee seen walking buy the apartmen building at the start of the film, and 55 minutes in as a neon sign outside the apartment window. |
The Paradine Case: |
Somewhat simular to his appearance in Stangers on a Train, in The Paradine Case, Hitchcock can be seen carrying a cello leaving the train and Cumberland Station. |
Notorious: |
Alfred's cameo this time is at the big party in Claude Rains's mansion. He can been seen an hour in, drinking champagne and then quickly leaving. |
Spellbound: |
Approx. 40 minutes after Spellbound starts, look for Hitch at the Empire Hotel. He is coming out of an elevator, smoking a cigarette and carrying a violin case. |

Seeming always near a train, Hitchcock appears this time on a train. Look for the master of suspense playing some cards. |

Suspicion: |
In Suspicion, Alfed Hitchcock can be spotted 45 minutes after the start of the film sending out an envelope at the local postbox. |

Keep your eyes open for the master of suspense in Easy Virtue, you can spot him walking past a tennis court with a walking stick in his hands. |
The Lodger: |
In his first appearnces on film, Alfred Hitchcock can be seen at a desk the newsroom and later on standing in the crowd watching an arrest. |
